Responsible for delivering specialized technologies and software to support the teaching and research mission of the university. Academic Technologies includes classroom technology support, instructional production, creative services, communications, classroom applications, collaborative technologies, test and evaluation services, high performance computing, and geographical information services.

Learning Management Systems & Collaborative Technologies
Learning Management Systems & Collaborative Technologies is responsible for infrastructure oversight and tool development that supports learning and teaching with technology. The primary focus is on course management systems (primarily WebCT), electronic portfolios, and the infrastructure for the delivery of video and multimedia collaboration and delivery.

Test & Evaluation Services
Test & Evaluation Services provides faculty and staff with automated scoring of exams and surveys as well as the production of statistical reports of the results.

High Performance Computing
The High Performance Computing (HPC) Group provides training, assistance, and support for research and high performance computing as well as engaging in funded research projects. Other responsibilities include shared and distributed memory parallel programming; selection and development of efficient algorithms for scientific computing; program optimization, particularly those using large amounts of data, memory, or CPU time; and porting codes to HPC systems.

Geographic Information Systems
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) group provides management of the GIS Support and Research Facility, which is a public computing facility established to support the use of GIS technology at Iowa State University. The mission of the facility is to provide a high level GIS research support laboratory for students, faculty, and staff as well as to provide GIS education and outreach to the ISU community and the state of Iowa.

Classroom Services
Classroom Services provides support for the university's 200-plus general classrooms and the advanced instructional technology housed in the classrooms. The group also provides support to departments in the installation and maintenance of collaborative workspaces and technology-rich conference rooms across campus. An extension of this support is the checkout of media equipment to faculty, staff, and students.

Creative Services
Creative Services works with faculty, staff, and administrative clients to develop informational and instructional communications in multiple electronic-delivery formats. Services offered include photography, video production, graphics and publication design, and multimedia projects.

Communications
Communications provides various methods and means of communication for IT Services to reach the campus community. Responsibilities include marketing of IT Services, communicating informational and support materials to the Iowa State community, communicating news and services information to IT Services staff, and consulting on communication related issues for IT Services staff.
