Discussion was held to see if additional information about ITS would be helpful at this time.
It seems there are similar activities that occur within the colleges and the boundary between ITS and the college IT activities is somewhat blurred. A question was asked whether this committee needs to consider college IT activities. Another question was also asked about other potential mergers. The budget of ITS is the core of this group, but considering the makeup of this group, these bigger picture items can be discussed within this group in the future.
The ITS strategic plan is pretty general and more specifics may be helpful as well as how it affects budgeting. Davis will provide more information about the projects outlined in the ITS strategic plan at a later meeting.
The next meeting could describe the RMM model as well as the new model affecting IT. Ellen Rasmussen may be available next month to present an overview to this group.
E-learning or distance education is an effort distributed across campus. Efforts are under way to coordinate that more. IT Services impact is with the learning management systems. Technology in Teaching and Learning will be a new group led by Jim Davis and Corly Brooke.
A tour of the Durham data center and telecommunications node room was held.
